Spring has arrived and with it lots of new beginnings for The Sports Bra Project! With the launch of this new website, it’s easier than ever to keep up with recent and ongoing events.
Highlights for the month include a return as philanthropic partner of the annual Women Coaches Symposium hosted by the University of Minnesota Tucker Center for the Study of Women & Girls in Sports, and the launch of a statewide sports bra collection by the Iowa Women in Soccer Alliance. The month wraps up with delivery of sports bras to both new and familiar places.
The Sports Bra Project at the Women Coaches Symposium
On April 19, The University of Minnesota Tucker Center for Research on Girls & Women in Sport hosted its annual Women Coaches Symposium. The St. Olaf College Volleyball team ran a collection and fundraising drive leading up to the symposium and ran The Sports Bra Project booth at the event. A total of 170 new sports bras were collected at the symposium. The players were also able to participate in a new feature of the symposium geared toward recent graduates and current student-athletes.
"Partnering with the Tucker Center and The Sports Bra Project allowed our team to work together on an important cause bigger than ourselves. It was an amazing experience opening up important conversations within the team."
— Emily Foster, St. Olaf Volleyball Coach.
Iowa Women in Soccer Alliance partners with The Sports Bra Project
The Iowa Women in Soccer Alliance announced a statewide sports bra donation drive in partnership with The Sports Bra Project. Youth clubs, high school, and college teams and programs from across the state are being encouraged to donate one new sports bra per team by June 15.
The I.W.S.A. formed officially in February 2019 with a mission to educate, motivate, advocate, and celebrate women in soccer. This statewide donation drive is the first initiative the Alliance has focused on since its inception. The Sports Bra Project partnership fulfills a major goal of I.W.S.A. in giving back to the sports community, identifying and breaking down barriers, and shedding light on important topics surrounding women in sport.
In addition to collecting sports bra for distribution to organizations serving athletes in other countries and states, the I.W.S.A. has set up an online donation request form for local individuals and groups to request donations through June 15.
Teams, clubs, organizations, and businesses are encouraged to join the drive and highlight their donation efforts on social media by tagging I.W.S.A. and using the following hashtags:
#TheSportsBraProject #ForTheGirls #BreakingBarriers.
We are excited to be able to support the work of Equal Playing Field by providing new sports bras to the girls and women who will be taking part in their grassroots program in Greece next month.
